When Ifeanyi laid his eyes on Oge at a wedding, he knew he has found someone special. As fate would have it, Oge was the one that served Ifeanyi and his friends that beautiful evening and the rest they say is history. Ify planned a very romantic proposal for Oge with candle lit tables, fireworks and lovely ambience to set the romantic mood for the special moment. Truthfully I love Oge more than anything in the world” says Ify excitedly.
The Beautiful Meeting
It was at the tradition marriage ceremony of a friend who was getting married in December 2012. I was one of the bridesmaids and after dancing with the would-be-bride and taking all the Aso-Ebi pictures, I changed into casual clothes to help with the serving of food and washing of plates. One of the people I served food was Ifeanyi; that was what he told me when we started talking later on, because I don’t remember seeing him at the event. I figured he took an interest in me and was watching me all through the event till he could get the opportunity to chat me up.
At about 8pm , I made my way quickly to the bus-stop praying and soliloquizing on how I would get out of Lawanson to Satellite Town and I didn’t know which bus to take home. Then I heard some guy calling out to me. I did the thing I usually do when such things happen… walk even faster!!!
I noticed that the guy was running to catch up with me, ( Yes, I walk really fast when I want to, almost like the Chinese). I say make I show this guy small but eventually I slowed down, something that I normally would not do because he was a complete stranger and I feel guys should walk up to ladies and not call them up on the road to wait for them to listen to their usual talk.
Anyways, almost breathless, he caught up with me and introduced himself . He said he was very close to the bride and tried to chat me up, I saw the opportunity to ask him for directions to Satellite Town and he offered to take me to the bus-stop.
I patiently and politely listened to his awkward attempt to make conversions with me as he walked me to the bus-stop. He eventually asked for my number and I gave it to him, again I don’t usually do that but I guess fate was playing a tune I was dancing to unconsciously.
He called me later that night to find out if I got home safe, “I said I did and thanked him for his help”. After a few calls and chat-ups he eventually asked me out on a proper date and I accepted.
On our first date, he took me to see a movie. After listening to him talk, I felt he was an American wanna-be and overly excited about Artists and stuff I consider immature and too mundane. With no engaging conversion, no interest developed and after the second date out, I refused further advances from him. All this was in December 2012 but we kept conversions on skype and facebook cordial.
Eventually in July, 2013 we started dating again. To cut the long story short period from December 2012 to July 2013 was tough for him because I wasn’t convinced about him In but having time to experience him converted me. Ify-james,is the sweetest guy I know, so caring, enlightened , hardworking, suave, giving, God fearing and fun…He is an epitome of every woman’s dream of a perfect man. Now we are here…the start of our lives together forever!
The Romantic Proposal
Let me not lie, I saw it coming. Ify made it easy for me to piece it all together . It was in February 2014 and I was to travel for training abroad towards the end of the month. Ify called me to say he has to hand something over to me and also discuss something very serious with me before I travel. I felt the nervousness in his voice over the phone and just knew what it would be especially when he said he would say that serious thing on valentine’s day on our special date at La Mango Restaurant. Yes, am psychic like that, wink wink.
Well I didn’t want to break his bubble, so I feigned ignorance and played along.
On valentine’s day, I was already at La Mango and had to wait for Ify. I was like a hot kettle on the stove because I had to wait for close to two hours, infact I was more like a volcano ready to erupt before he eventually showed up and apologised profusely. “Babe, it was traffic!”. I simmered down after load of apologies and explanations. Then Ify went to talk to the manager of the restaurant about our reservation.
We sat to a candle lit dinner by the pool side. It was a lovely night, the restaurant had made extra effort at their decor to make the ambience very romantic. We ordered our food and chatted as we waited for it to be served. I knew he was going to propose but I didn’t know how, the bobo sef was clueless, almost did not know what to do and for some reasons, he was panting and serious sweating, ok he wasn’t sweating but it looked like he was. He was very very nervous. I had to fight back the urge to reach out to his own side of the table and reassure him by saying, “ it’s ok, I won’t say No ok?”. Lol.
We were served our food and while we were eating, I saw from the corner of my eyes, fireworks cake candle heading in our direction, at this point, Ify’s heart was almost bursting out of his rib cage, lol. Then the music changed and the band was singing a love song. The manager brought the cake to our table with a mic requesting for everyone’s attention as Ify was about to propose. Everything happened so fast from then on, he didn’t knee, can you imagine??? he was too nervous to do what he had planned all along. Eventually, he asked me to marry him and I accepted as everyone around the pool congratulated us.
